On the occasion of its 8th anniversary Dhaka Bank Limited donated a passenger lift and two haemodialysis machines to Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (BIRDEM).
In a simple ceremony held on July 5, 2003 at BIRDEM auditorium, chief guest Mr. Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed MP, Honorable Minister for Housing and Public Works presented the Letter of Commitment by Dhaka Bank to replace one passenger lift at the hospital premises and to purchase two dialysis machines to BIRDEM.
At present, Haemodialysis Unit, BIRDEM is operating with only 11 dialysis machines – not enough to meet immediate requirements of the acute patients. The passenger lifts in BIRDEM hospital also requires immediate replacement. Considering the immediate requirements of the ailing people Dhaka Bank donated one lift and two dialysis machines to BIRDEM hospital, Dhaka.
A T M Hayatuzzaman Khan, Chairman, Dhaka Bank Limited said, as a corporate citizen of the country, Dhaka Bank recognizes its responsibilities towards the community. The Bank, he said, stands aside the community whenever required. In celebrating the successful completion of eight years of the Bank, its board of directors decided to extend assistance to community healthcare. The Founder Chairman of the Bank, Abdul Hai Sarkar mentioned about the Bank’s contribution in various social development activities. He said, the Bank would continue its social responsibilities through a platform to be launched by the Bank soon.
The Chief Guest, Mirza Abbasuddin Ahmed, MP, Minister for Housing and Public Works lauded the gesture of Dhaka Bank and called upon individuals and institutions to come forward to help the community. Mentioning about the recent trend of people going abroad for treatment, Mirza Abbas, commented that this could be avoided with the development of our hospital facilities through assistance from the community.
In his concluding remarks Prof. Wahiduddin Ahmed, President, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh expressed their gratitude and thanked Dhaka Bank for supporting such a noble cause.
